Mixing.

Although it sometimes might feel like an afterthought, mixing was one of the most important parts of this assignment as it created a cohesivity to the final piece, instead of just being a bunch of sounds placed on top of eachother. I do think that this is where my pieces fail slightly and I can admit that that’s due to poor time management on my part. There’s a lot I would change about the final mix if I had time. Mixing is so important in audio post production as most of the time you’d be mixing for certain sites/platforms and each of those have their own parameters you’d have to be within, I think that if I were to do this project again I would definitely try and keep this in mind throughout the assignment and research it further to try and better my understanding.

In my piece I used a lot of automation to create fade ins and outs, as there’s moments when the characters switch places and the circumstances change very suddenly. Here it was crucial to get the timing accurate and I think I achieved the effect I was aiming for. It was also important to get the levels right when creating ambient soundscapes for both the final project and the artefacts to create a balanced, realistic atmosphere.
