Foley.

I’ve always been interested in Foley so I was happy to be able to incorporate that into my project. Although I didn’t use a lot, it was fun trying to think of different ways to try and create sounds that I was imagining for the scenes. I knew that characters were quite fluid in their movements and being so wanted to add some effects that construed that and so

I ended up learning how to make a water drop noise by flicking myself in the face and whistling at the same time (new party trick) and hitting a half full can of rubicon mango across the kitchen table with a pencil for about 10 minutes. I also needed a kind of thundering wind noise for a moment when clouds came on the screen but couldn’t find a sample that properly fit with the scene so figured that wind was just air and surely I could make that myself. I got my Apple wired headphones and blew into the mic from a close distance and this created a horrible crunchy sound that turned out to be exactly what I was imagining for the moment. I really enjoyed having to look at things happening on screen and trying to think about the sound they make, then having to completely forget the circumstances of the sound and figure out an equivalent that I could easily create.
