For this project, we were provided 3 different clips that we could have done the audio post production for but I felt no connection to the materials so decided to choose something other than those. I initially wanted to do a clip from a stop motion animation, like the first few minutes of Coraline or possibly something from Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr fox. Stop frame animation interested me because it’s so stylised and I believed it could be interesting to create something in line with that. I then remembered a fascination I used to have with Disney Pixar Shorts, and so chose Day and Night, which I remember watching in the cinema before Toy story 3 in 2013. I knew this would be a challenge for a few reasons.
- I had already seen it a fair amount of time and so would find it difficult to remove my existing knowledge of the short, to create something different.
- The short has so many different facets and sections that it would be interesting and difficult to try and find/create sounds that matched the energy of the animation.
Overall, I’m glad I chose this short; I find the story heartwarming and was happy to have the chance to work on this animation that I loved so much as a 10 year old.
